Janet Wright accepted the position of President of Aglow International of North Dakota. Jan has been involved in Aglow for several years. Most recently serving as the President of the Jamestown Aglow Lighthouse. Born in Minnesota, Jan’s family quickly moved to North Dakota because of more farm land. Jan graduated from Edgeley High School and holds a B.S. from NDSU. She has one daughter, Courtney, who is attending Jamestown College. Jan’s late husband, Jim, was a District Judge in North Dakota.
For over 30 years, Jan has been a Real Estate Broker in Jamestown and owns and operates several Real Estate offices.
Jan is typically a woman of few words, but when she was asked what she does to relax, the words flowed out of her like warm honey on a sunny day. “I love horticulture; you know, planting and propagating different plants. I so enjoy starting little ones and raising them up. Actually, I love any aspect of raising plants. I think it comes from my farming background of working with my grandparents and parents on the farm. I love to feel the soil in my hands,”
She also loves to train plants into a standard, like a topiary. Jan uses red worms from Australia in her compost. She has 120-130 different types of hosta, some of which she has been collecting for over 20-30 years. Hostas of various sizes grow in Jan’s backyard (which is straight up)… from miniatures, to medium sized to some which are three to four feet high. She enjoys new varieties and also she sells hosta and hybrid coleus. She has about 100 varieties of these. Even though flowers are her favorite, she also plants a few vegetables so that she can “pick something fresh to eat for dinner.”
Jan ministered to women and men in prison for many years. Her strong desire to bring wholeness to women is what first attracted her to Aglow. She says “I believe Aglow International is a ministry where we can learn of the inheritance which Christ has for us and taste the freedom which that brings.
